Moria in Memoriam

The Moria camp was a tragedy and was referred to as “hell on earth”. Through a series of brutally honest, raw and powerful photographs, documentary filmmaker Michael Graversen tells the story of the people he met in the ruins of Moria Camp. People fleeing a life of war and the desire for a better life. People with hopes and dreams.

The temporary exhibition “ Moria in Memoriam – tragedy, hope and dreams in the ashes of the camp” can be seen in FLUGT from 10 February – 31 May 2024.

MORIA IN MEMORIAM
Tragedy, hope and dreams in the ashes of the refugee camp

Hell on earth. This is how Doctors Without Borders described Moria camp, which housed 20,000 people, including 7,000 children, before it burned down and created an acute humanitarian crisis. But within the tragic story, there are also unique personal stories of hope and dreams, of escaping a life of war, poverty and the desire for a better life.

For five years, documentary filmmaker Michael Graversen visited the camp. With his camera in hand, he got close to the people he met in the ruins. The result is a series of art photos that with raw realism depict the many people whose hope for a future may grow out of Moria’s ashes.

The works are now on display in FLUGT in the special exhibition Moria in Memoriam – tragedy, hope and dreams in the ashes of the refugee camp.

The exhibition runs from 10 February – 31 May 2024.

The exhibition opens with a vernissage on 10 February. There will be a lecture with Michael Graversen in FLUGT, who will conclude with the screening of Graversen’s Robert-nominated documentary film “Ghosts of Moria” (2023) about two Syrian friends trying to survive in the ruins of the Moria camp.
